1. Rome City tour by golf cart
When the summer heat in Rome hits 40° or in the rain, I’ve found that a golf cart tour is the perfect way to explore the historic center comfortably. I especially recommend this tour if you or someone you’re traveling with has difficulty walking long distances. Rome is vast, after all!
One of the coolest aspects of this tour, which I absolutely love, is that it includes drinking water and gelato—a much-needed refreshment in the summer heat. Even if it rains, you’ll be lucky to ride in a cozy golf cart!
The tour is private, so it will include your group and the guide (or guides, if your group has more than 7 people.)
The knowledgeable guides who lead the tour provide deep insights into Rome’s history, making each stop more meaningful. Of course, upon starting the tour, the guide will ask you if there’s anything you want to see and if you have any other tours booked so that the itinerary can be planned to perfection.
The itinerary usually include:
- Trevi Fountain
- Colosseum
- Spanish Steps
- Janiculum Terrace
- Borghese Gardens
- Aventine Hill
A bonus is that if your hotel is located in the historic center, the golf cart will come to pick you up at the entrance of your hotel.

2. Trastevere walking food tour
As someone who loves to dive into local cuisine, I can say this walking food tour in Trastevere was one of my most delightful experiences in Rome.
Trastevere is a vibrant neighborhood haven for foodies, and this tour lets you sample some of the best street food and dishes the city offers without the risk of stumbling into a tourist trap.
I savored authentic Roman dishes like Carbonara, cured meats, cheeses, local wine, pizza, and gelato. Food tours are a must in Rome, which has been recognized as one of the top cities in the world for food by the NYTimes, and this one did not disappoint.
I particularly enjoyed interacting with the locals and learning about Roman food culture from our guide, who provided valuable insights.
It’s true that I’m a Roman and don’t need a tour to know the local dishes, but since I heard great things about this tour, I decided to try it, and I was pleasantly surprised.

3. Tour of the historic center by segway
Touring Rome’s historic center on a Segway is hands down one of the most fun ways I’ve ever explored the city. If you’re traveling with teenagers, I can’t recommend this enough—they’ll absolutely love it.
I noticed that whenever I see a group of Segway riders around Rome, they’re always smiling, and after taking this tour myself, I understood why. The eco-friendly Segway is perfect for navigating Rome’s cobblestone streets, and it’s a blast to ride.
The guide provided helmets and safety instructions before we set off on a three-hour adventure that flew by. I was having so much fun, I almost wanted to do it all over again immediately!

4. Kid-friendly tour of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel
Exploring Rome can be exhausting, especially if you’re traveling with children. I was thrilled to discover this kid-friendly tour of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel.
It’s designed specifically for families, and I found it a lifesaver.
The tour kept the kids engaged with guessing games and treasure hunts while adults immersed themselves in the incredible art of the Vatican Museums.
Over the course of three hours, we explored artistic treasures such as the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.
What stood out was how well the guide balanced keeping the children entertained while providing in-depth historical context. It was the perfect blend of fun and education.

5. Tour the city on an electric Tuk Tuk
For couples looking for a romantic and unique way to explore Rome, I highly recommend the electric tuk-tuk tour. I took this tour with my partner, and it was one of the highlights of our trip.
This private tour, led by a professional local guide who also serves as the driver, took us to some of Rome’s most iconic sites, including the Trevi Fountain, Circus Maximus, Pantheon, and St. Peter’s Square. We even stopped for coffee along the way.
What I loved most was how effortlessly the tuk-tuk glided through Rome’s narrow alleys and lively piazzas, allowing us to soak in the city’s charm without the stress of navigating on foot.

6. Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour
If it’s your first time visiting Rome, I can’t stress enough how important it is to take a guided tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Even as a local, I wouldn’t recommend going alone—there’s too much to see and learn about.
I was so glad to have a guide when I took this tour. Not only did will they handle all the ticket bookings (a huge time-saver), but they also help you skip the endless lines at the entrances. The Roman Forum, in particular, can be overwhelming with its many ruins, but our guide made it all come to life with fascinating stories and historical insights.
This three-hour tour covers everything, including access to the Colosseum arena, where gladiators once fought. Standing there in the heart of this ancient monument was an unforgettable experience.

7. Rome by electric bike
Another tour that I highly recommend—especially if you’re eco-conscious like me—is the Rome by electric bike tour. I love that this tour minimizes our environmental footprint and takes great care of its guests.
When I joined this tour, I was impressed by the thoughtful details: child seats for those who need them, ponchos in case of rain, and the ability to customize the tour based on what we had already seen. They even took us through Rome’s Jewish Ghetto, an area I hadn’t explored much before.
Rome isn’t known as a bike-friendly city, but this tour proved that’s not entirely true. The guide led us through charming alleys and piazzas that cars couldn’t access, giving us a unique perspective of the city.
And the best part? The electric motor kicks in when you’re tired, so you can enjoy the ride without breaking a sweat.

8. Private half-day tour of Rome’s historic center
From the moment I first set foot in Rome, I was struck by how densely packed the city is with history and monuments. If, like me, you have just a day or two to explore, you’ll be trying to cram nearly 3,000 years of history into a very short time!
I’ve learned that the best way to see the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is with an experienced guide. I loved this tour because it gave me privileged access to some of Rome’s most popular monuments, like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, without the hassle of waiting in line.
But that’s not all. In just a few hours, I also got to see the world-famous Trevi Fountain, the breathtaking Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon with its awe-inspiring dome. This tour is a must if you want to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The tour includes tickets and skip-the-line access to the Colosseum and Roman Forum.
- Since this is a private tour, I appreciated having the guide’s full attention to answer any questions I had.
- It’s the only tour I’ve found that covers so many monuments in just a few hours while providing detailed historical context.
Mind:
- Be prepared to walk about 2.5 km to see the best of Rome’s historic center. This tour might not be suitable if you have walking difficulties.
- Don’t forget to bring a bottle to fill at the many drinking water fountains your guide will point out along the way.
- If you’re traveling with children, a stroller is a must.

9. Angels and Demons half-day tour of Rome
If you’re like me and have a thirst for uncovering hidden truths, you’ll find the Angels and Demons half-day tour utterly fascinating.
Inspired by Dan Brown’s best-selling novel, this tour takes you on a journey through Rome’s mysteries and legends, many of which I had never heard of before.
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the novel to life as we explored sites like the Pantheon, Castel Sant’Angelo, and Piazza Navona. Even if you haven’t read the book, this tour offers an intriguing perspective on the history of the Eternal City.

10. Early access tour of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel
If you’re anything like me, you might find the crowds at museums overwhelming (especially if you have kids or seniors traveling with you).
That’s why I can’t recommend this early-access tour enough. It allows you to enter the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel before they open to the general public, making for a much more serene experience.
