1. Via Cola di Rienzo

Whenever I go to the historic center of Rome to shop, I always start in the Prati neighborhood, a trendy area near the Tiber River and the Vatican.

This neighborhood is also home to two of my favorite gelato shops in Rome and some great restaurants and cafes; it is a very welcoming area.

The main shopping street in the Prati district is Via Cola di Rienzo. Here you will really find everything. Then I recommend you also take a look at the streets that intersect with this main street.

This shop-lined street starts from Piazza Risorgimento and, after about two kilometers arrives at Ponte Regina Margherita, very close to Piazza del Popolo.

Start window-shopping right from Piazza Risorgimento, where you will find the well-stocked boutique of women’s shoes designed in Italy “Danielle Shoes.” Stop in and try on as many shoes as you like-the salespeople are so friendly.

Now take a big breath, because as you enter Via Cola di Rienzo, one of the main shopping streets in Rome, you will find a slew of stores that will spoil you for choice.

Most of them are clothing shops. Several men’s clothing shops are also easily found on Via Cola di Rienzo, so if you come as a couple or family, your male counterpart will also be assailed by an urge to buy clothes, e.g.

  • Dan John Rome
  • Boggi Milan
  • Paul Bianco

At the intersection with Via Silla is Fellini, a sartorial clothing boutique where you will find quality garments for both men and women.

As for mid- to high-priced brands both Italian and foreign, there are plenty of them:

  • Original Marines (for children)
  • Sisley
  • Timberland
  • Sisley
  • Liu-jo
  • Max Mara
  • People
  • Triumph Lingerie
  • Tommy Hilfiger
  • Nuvolari
  • Lacoste

On the street, you will also find more convenient shops such as Intimissimi and Calzedonia and some of the best clothing stores in Rome, such as Stefanel, United Colors of Benetton, and Coin.

Not to be underestimated are the leather goods stores, among which stand out, next to the more commercial and well-known brands such as Carpisa and O-bag, the well-stocked Pelletteria Silvia Francescato, at the intersection with Via Lucrezio Caro.

On the street, you will also find a shop specializing in ties, Tie Shop, several beauty shops including the popular Sephora, pharmacies, and a Pewex supermarket.

If, like me, you love to buy books, there is the famous Libreria Mondadori Bookstore, where you will also find titles in English.

For those who want to buy coffee in Rome, there is the “Castroni” coffee shop and roastery, very famous in the City.

I’m sure the quest for the best shopping in Rome has made you hungry, so refresh yourself with street food at Gastronomia Franchi or gelato at Gelateria La Romana.

More shopping near Via Cola di Rienzo St.

Prati is the best area where to shop in Rome. Also, explore these streets that are very close:

  • Via Ottaviano
  • Via Candia
  • Via Germanico
  • Via Fabio Massimo

2. Via del Corso

After discovering the best street in Rome to buy clothes and shoes in the historic center, I would like to introduce you to the most famous shopping street in Rome.

Via del Corso is a street you will definitely cross because it is in the middle of the area most dense with historical landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

Via del Corso begins at Piazza del Popolo and ends at Piazza Venezia. It is part, along with Via del Babuino and Via Ripetta, of the so-called “trident,” a set of three streets that are all filled with boutiques.

Although this is the busiest street in Rome, because it is a destination for tourists, you will manage to do some affordable shopping here as well, and not only in the sale season, you just need to have the time to scout out the offers.

In addition to clothing and leather goods shops (such as Alfieri, a store specializing in leather jackets in Rome), boutiques of big commercial brands such as Gap, Foot Locker, and Vans, you will also find other types of boutiques here that I would like to point out.

I especially recommend peeking into the alleys that connect Via del Corso to Via del Babuino, where you will find unique boutiques.

For example, there is Bacillario on Via Laurina, where you will find clothing in gothic, dark, and rock styles.

On Via dei Greci, on the other hand, you will find one of the best musical instrument stores in Rome, the “Stanza della Musica.”

Via Vittoria and Via Belsiana are full of boutiques, here are some of them:

  • DaDaDa – clothing store
  • Lunaria Cashmere – tailoring store specializing in pure cashmere sweaters
  • Ortigia fragrances, accessories, and home furnishings
  • Flavia Valentini – Swimwear boutique
  • Dakota Luxury Vintage & Second-hand Boutique
  • Corner Boutique – men’s clothing
  • Tiziana Modiano – women’s clothing
  • Suite 76 – women’s clothing boutique

Proceeding along Via del Corso towards Piazza Venezia, one encounters many other stores of mid-range and budget commercial brands such as Bershka, Zara, Adidas, and Alcott.

There is also a shopping mall with many boutiques and restaurants housed in the historic Commercial Mall Galleria Alberto Sordi.

If from Via del Corso at Palazzo Chigi turn onto Via del Tritone, with a short walk you will find:

  • Flying Tiger, a popular gift and cute home goods store with many items at €1, €2, €3, and €5.
  • La Rinascente – the luxury department store in Rome, spanning several floors, with gourmet shops on the top floor.

Via del Corso is one of the streets where Rome locals shop during the Christmas season to enjoy the glowing decorations.

3. Via del Babuino

This street goes under the radar because it is eclipsed by nearby Via del Corso. Via del Babuino is also part of the “trident of streets” and runs from Piazza del Popolo to the Spanish Steps.

On the street stands the Hotel de Russie, one of Rome’s luxury hotels, where celebrities from show business or politics often stay.

The street is dotted with high-fashion boutiques among which are Chanel, Cavalli, Tiffany, Sandro Ferrone, and RedValentino brands.

Also worth mentioning is the children’s clothing store Monnalisa Flagship Store.

4. Via Condotti

Via Condotti is also known as the “luxury street of Rome.” This street connects Via del Corso and Piazza di Spagna, the square with the Spanish Steps and Bernini’s boat-shaped fountain.

If you love to spend a lot of money on clothing and jewelry, this street will give you plenty to do. Here you will find high-fashion boutiques, watches, and famous jewelry stores such as:

  • Swarovski
  • Max Mara
  • Max & Co.
  • Dolce & Gabbana
  • Rolex
  • Tiffany & Co.
  • Bottega Veneta
  • Giorgio Armani
  • Louis Vuitton
  • Bvlgari
  • Dior
  • Gucci

In case high fashion prices make your head spin, recover with one of the best coffee in the Eternal City at the Antico Caffé Greco, located along Via Condotti near the Spanish Steps.

If you are lucky enough to deserve further luxury shopping in Rome, then mark these two other streets, next to and parallel to Via Condotti:

  • Via Frattina
  • Via della Vite – here you will also find a book-buying gem, the Anglo-American Bookshop, a family-run bookstore that has been operating for over fifty years and provides English-language texts.

5. Via Nazionale

Even true shopaholics tend to underestimate one of the best shopping streets in Rome: Via Nazionale.

This street runs from Piazza della Repubblica, near Termini Station, to Largo Magnanapoli, which borders the Imperial Forum. It is therefore also a fairly busy thoroughfare in the historic center.

Here, however, in addition to some tourists, you will find many locals going about their daily chores.

There are a lot of boutiques here as well, from mid-to-low-cost brands to luxury boutiques.

If you like books, don’t miss the bookshop located inside the Palazzo delle Esposizioni.

6. Monti Neighborhood

From Via Nazionale with a short walk through the picturesque Via del Boschetto you enter the Monti neighborhood, Rome’s hipster quarter.

Monti is a pleasant place to stay in Rome just a stone’s throw from the Colosseum. It is a nice neighborhood where to dine or have a drink and absolutely also a cute area where to shop in Rome. The neighborhood is the spot for vintage and second-hand shopping in Rome.

Take a stroll down Via Panisperna, Via Leonina, and Via dei Serpenti to unearth the coolest vintage shops in the city.

After shopping, also head to Via Urbana, where you can indulge in a tasting tour among the bistro Aromaticus, the raw-vegan chocolate and gelato shop “Grezzo” and the gourmet street food ” Zia Rosetta.”

Here are some vintage clothing shops in Monti:

  • Le Gallinelle | Via Panisperna, 59
  • Flamingo Vintage Shop | Via del Boschetto, 123

  • King Size Vintage | Via Leonina, 78
  • Gocce di Memoria | Via Panisperna, 238

7. Via del Governo Vecchio

This narrow street very close to the beautiful Piazza Navona is renowned in the city precisely for its second-hand clothes boutiques.

On the street, you will also find excellent Roman taverns such as Cantina e Cucina.

Nearby is one of the best wine bars in Rome, Cul de Sac. Also worth a visit is the bookshop that includes a pub with artisanal beers, the “Altroquando.”

8. Via dei Giubbonari

Those visiting Rome for the first time might underestimate the Piazza Campo dei Fiori, which is instead cherished by locals. It is right in the central Parione neighborhood.

The square is home to bistros and pubs that get lively at aperitif time and in the evening. During the day, the square hosts a food market that is mainly aimed at tourists but very pleasant and certainly stocked with all the food souvenirs you could want.

The shopping haven of the area, on the other hand, is Via dei Giubbonari, which runs from Campo dei Fiori to Piazza Benedetto Cairoli.

Via dei Giubbonari has lots of clothing shops, definitely come here to shop if you are looking for clothes or shoes

If you are crazy about Italian cheese then you are in luck: the cheese shop “Cacio della Campagna Romana” will know how to delight you with pecorino, ricotta, primo sale, and much more.

On the other hand, if you feel like rolling your fork around a slice of prosciutto in between buying clothes or if you want a typical Roman dish like carbonara, you’ll find excellent ones at the delicatessen Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina.

9. Viale Marconi

One of the best shopping streets in Rome is located in the southwest part of the city, in an area off the tourist routes but easily reached by streetcar 8 from Trastevere

This street is quite long; the part you are interested in, that is, the part that is full of stores, is the one starting from Piazzale della Radio.

It is on Piazzale della Radio that you can start your shopping, from the Flying Tiger gift store to the Fedeli-Gruppo Clark clothing store.

Continuing down the street you will find many clothing and shoe stores and also the well-stocked Feltrinelli Bookstore. If you love buying shoes, this street should be on your Rome bucket list.

Worth exploring are the streets that intersect Viale Guglielmo Marconi such as Via Francesco Grimaldi. On Via Pietro Blaserna, you will find Game Stop, a famous video game and board game store, and Babyland, a children’s and youth shoe store.

10. Via Tuscolana

An ordinary traveler would never happen to visit this street famous among locals just for shopping, but you might because you read this guide.

Via Tuscolana is a long street that starts from the historic center near Piazza Re di Roma and runs through the outskirts of the city in the Don Bosco, Cinecittà, and Quadraro neighborhoods.

Here locals come to buy cheap clothing. The part of the street that interests you is from the Lucio Sestio metro stop to the Subaugusta stop.

Along Via Tuscolana you will also find two popular and affordable men’s and women’s clothing stores in Rome which are H&M and Oviesse (my favorite, and it’s great for shopping for kids in Rome as well).

11. Via dei Coronari

Via dei Coronari is one of the most beautiful streets in Rome. It starts from Piazza di Tor Sanguigna, near Piazza Navona, and arrives at Piazza dei Coronari. On this street you will find characteristic antique dealers

TIP:

If antiques are your thing, know that there is even better than the beautiful Via dei Coronari. In fact, every Sunday, the Rome Antiques Market is held near Milvio Bridge, where you’ll get some real bargains.

You’ll also find period furniture and objects at the Porta Portese Market, which happens on Sundays, and at the many thrift stores in Rome of the “Mercatino” brand.

Via dei Coronari also has leather goods, clothing, and shoe boutiques.

12. Via Margutta

Via Margutta is a hidden gem in Rome. Although it runs parallel to Via del Babuino, which is one of the busiest streets in the historic center, you will always find it quiet and in the background.

When you get here, you will feast your eyes. First, you will notice the cascades of green plants from the colorful buildings, then you will be attracted by the paintings displayed outside the artists’ workshops.

Via Margutta is also known as the ” Artists’ Street,” was a historic gathering of painters and, twice a year, hosts the exhibition “100 Painters in Via Margutta.”

You will also find frame and textile stores along the street. The romantic atmosphere has also made it known as “Lovers’ Street.”

After art, you need something to put under your teeth, so head to one of the most popular vegetarian restaurants in Rome, it’s “Margutta Veggy Food & Art,” which offers a buffet for lunch.

13. Via Sannio

In the San Giovanni neighborhood, which you may have heard of because of the cathedral, there is a second-hand clothes market held from Monday to Saturday that is very popular with the very young, called precisely the “Via Sannio market.”

It is a very quaint place, where vendors call attention by shouting “bargains, one-of-a-kind pieces” and similar phrases in Roman slang.

If you pass by take a walk there, maybe you’ll find a pair of jeans or a leather jacket, but I think they are much better stocked than other flea markets and especially the “Mercatino” brand of second-hand goods and clothing stores found in all neighborhoods.

Market hours | Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.

Instead, it is interesting to note that a few steps away from the market on Via Sannio is Coin, one of the most popular department stores in Rome, near the San Giovanni metro stop.
